Welcome from the Dean

Hello and welcome to Yr Athrofa: the Institute of Education. My name is Dylan Jones and prior to joining Yr Athrofa in January 2016, I worked in schools for almost 30 years including almost 20 years as a headteacher in three different types of school.

I know what it’s like to be a teacher on education’s frontlines and have seen first-hand the many challenges schools face. But so too have I seen the unwavering passion and dedication of school staff, who make such a lasting contribution to children’s lives every single day.

They are the agents of change and, together with our professional partners, it is my ambition to assist in a purposeful and practical way as we unlock the huge potential that exists within our education system.

Yr Athrofa’s experienced and committed team is ready to play its part in progressing Welsh education and we look forward to working with you in achieving our shared goals. The young people of Wales deserve the best education and the teachers of Wales deserve the best support possible.
