A new Welsh second language resource to support teachers

Canolfan Peniarth has this week published a new resource that will support teachers in delivering Welsh accross the curriculum in schools where Welsh is taught as a second language.

The Welsh for Everyone (Cymraeg i bawb) resource is cross-curriculuar and includes materials related to subjects such as Religious Education, Geography, Art, Music, Welsh & Welsh second language, Drama, Design Technology, Science, History, Maths, Information technology and communication.

The pack includes;

  • 25 cross-curricular cards in full colour

  • an A3 sheet that includes key vocabulary for teachers

  • small cards on a keyring with the phrases used most often in class and empty pages at the end so that teachers can add their own favourite phrases

  • audio files of key vocabulary and phrases

  • guidances notes with ideas for delivering the activities.

While also includingideas and examples of possible activities, Welsh for everyone includes a guide that lists useful phrases for the class, e.g. greetings, commands, target setting and so on, and teachers are encouraged to make use of audio files of the vocabulary and key phrases also, as correct pronunciation and intonation are crucial when introducing Welsh to learners.
